New Initiative for Brighton’s Junior Tennis Players: Free Playtime to Build Skills and Independence
Welcome to an exciting new opportunity for Brighton’s junior tennis enthusiasts! Starting Friday, January 10th, 2025, juniors are invited to participate in free play sessions at the Preston Park Tennis Courts, every Tuesday & Friday from 4 pm to 6 pm.
This initiative aims to generate an environment where children can enhance their tennis skills, build friendships, and develop independence—all while enjoying the fun of self-directed play.

● Who can join: Juniors who can play and score matches
● When: Every Tuesday and Friday, 4–6 pm
● Where: Preston Park Tennis Courts, Brighton
● Cost: Completely free!
● What to Expect:
○ Self-directed play: Players will organize their own matches.
○ Frequent rotation to encourage meeting and playing with new friends.
○ A environment helping develop important life skill

Why This Matters
Traditional junior tennis has often been heavily supervised, leaving little room for spontaneous, creative play. This initiative changes that by empowering kids to take ownership of their game. Beyond tennis, children will develop essential skills like negotiation, responsibility, and teamwork—all in a welcoming environment.
Getting Started
No need to book—just show up and play!
Bring your own tennis balls (please ask Dan Travis if you need some).
Courts will be block booked exclusively for juniors and they will be given their own gate access code that will allow only them entry from 4 – 6pm
To help us plan better, we kindly ask parents to fill out this Google form.
When you have completed the form you will be invited to join the Whatsapp Group, which can also be used by older children.
A Few Notes
● Initial Sessions: Dan Travis will be present at formative sessions to help things run smoothly.
● Parent Involvement: Interested in helping out? Let us know!
● Experimental Phase: This program is new and may evolve—thank you for your
patience and support!
● Older Children: While this initiative avoids online group coordination, older participants
may arrange matches independently.
Looking Ahead
We plan to add more sessions early in the New Year, providing even more opportunities for juniors to play and grow.
